Living in southwestern state in the US, I do not have access to many beaches.
Or any at all really.
So I have to go with what is accessible to me, and that would be the sand at the lake. Not even pretty sand either….just yucky sand.
But my dear darling daughter has this new little thing of wrinkling up her nose and I CAUGHT it! Usually she’s sneaky with it and hides it when the camera is out….but I’m faster than lightning, baby….
I cropped in closer to cut out some of that yucky sand and lightened the photo. (Seriously, our lake sand is just nothing like the pretty sands of the oceans.) I then used Pioneer Woman’s seventies actions, reduced the opacity to 70% to allow more of the colors to come through. Then burned the edges.

I love it! I think I must have learned my love for close-up crops from you; pretty much everything I do now is a close crop on the face! I noticed that a lot of the contest entries are distance shots and don’t focus on the face, but man, I just cannot get away from the face now. Thanks to you. And I’d have to say that’s a good thing, because I really love the direction in which my photography has gone. Because of you. :<) You rock!
I love her expression and that cute little shirt/dress is perfect with the sand background. She is precious!
Oh she is so cute – I love this picture so much! The colors are amazing and that little nose wrinkle is too adorable. By the way, I do that too
haha it’s not as cute when i do it!
and I LOVE her shirt – where’s it from?
That’s a great recipe, love it.
This beach category is nearly as limiting as the wedding one, I forget how BIG the US is – we’ve got oodles of coastline all within a 3 hour drive – then again we hate 3 hour drives (on small bendy roads through mountains) and you guys seem to think that’s just a short jaunt
Oh don’t – you should hear the rain lashing down right now – and I’ve just had the whole side of my house rendered in concrete – still wet concrete – which is probably running in a river all over my neighbours gardens….. I’m glad it’s dark!
Oooh I love it! She is precious!
Great photo! Had a hard time finding a “beach” in NM myself
Soooo cute.
Oh, LOVE her!!
Oh Dana…this is just so sweet! What a beautiful portrait you captured.
